When I say "abolish the artist" what do I mean? Isn't it obvious? Kill the bastards! Yes, what we need is a squad, perhaps a death squad, tasked with bringing these pretentious freaks to an early grave! Smash the drawing tablets, shred all editing software, and carpet bomb the coffee houses. Once the Earth is rid of the artist menace, then we may stomp on the gas pedal and give our lives to our AI and algorithmic gods in exchange for a never ending flow of busty, six fingered, anime girls, and text to speech Reddit shorts with Minecraft parkour footage! PRAISE LIZARD FUHER MUSK!!!
Now that Im finished pretending to be funny on the internet, now I shall procede to pretend to be smart on the internet. So, when I say abolish the artist, what I mean is make art for everyone, make creation for everyone, instead of creating a social class for it. Make the creation of art like the consuming of food, there are no eaters cause we all eat food, let's make it like that for art.
So, why is it we cannot all make art? Surely most people want to make it. How many times have you fantasized about playing in a band, painting, or developing video games, but simply couldnt cause of time or budget limitations? Most modes of production through out history have not been kind to art, before, during the era of primitive communism, art was a way of marking where you were and telling stories, cavemen during the days they were not hunting, would make paintings commemorating great hunts, the surrounding landscapes, or just a mammoth they thought looked cool, even neanderthals were shown to like to wear necklaces adorned with objects they found aesthetically pleasing.
However, as we moved into the agricultural mode of production and fell into our dreaded age of statism, the hunt was replaced with work, you and your community no longer owned what you produced, the landowner did, and so art was something that took to long, I dont wanna make pottery, Im tired from working in the fields all day, I wanna just relax and watch cows fuck (or whatever the ancient Mesopotatoheads did for fun in their silly little river valley). But the problem is, people still wanted cool vases, paintings, and rugs, so let's find a dude who likes this stuff alot and pay him to do it. And thus, the artist was born.
Let me explain as simple as I can why restricting serious pursuit of art to just a few people willing to risk alot or born well off enough to not need to work for a wage. When we make art for profit, the artist is not encouraged to make art because they are passionate, they make it for money, the passionate artist has to sacrifice their visions for corporate and market trends, the only thing that makes it to the top is slop made for a stupid mass of people who dont like being challenged, they want the same formula that comforts them, this isn't their fault, most people coming home from work tired and frustrated dont wanna read Kafka, but that's the problem with the capitalist mode of production, long tedious wage labor sucks our energy dry, so when we get home, we dont want something complicated or deep, they want something simple they can watch while drinking their cold brews. The millenial child-free lady doesnt read all those trashy "smut" novels cause they are engaging or interesting, quite the opposite, they are formulaic and cover all the story beats to satisfy the dopamine receptors probably because working on spreadsheets all day and straining her eyes on her computer, doesnt leave the mental energy for something a bit above the "smut" novel and the artist must conform to that. Im sure these "smut" writers have an interesting story to tell but the current trend in the market doesnt allow it, or maybe they're just as braindead as their readers and REALLY need to get laid (I kid). Capitalism doesnt produce good art, it produces safe art, that's why Hollywood is shitting in it's own mouth with all these reboots and remakes, they are safe, formulaic, and the audeince knows the IPs already so there isn't alot of challenge marketing the movie, and you don't really need to write it cause the story is already right there, just write out all the racist shit.
This is the first part of my series on artist abolition, Ill update it sometime next week. Pls be patient both I and this site have autism.
